Jen Neame-Collins is English, but has been based in south west France for over 20 years. She works in paper – glueing layers together, then cutting shapes from templates she designs, to create incredibly light but strong and rigid pieces. Her work is a riot of colour and exuberant pattern, she revels in creating pieces to bring joy to the wearer. Inspired by everthing from Baroque art to Dolly Parton, excess is the keyword. Using gold, silver or copper leaf to begin to create patterns, she then builds up ornate decoration on both sides of the pieces using various medium – artists oils, 3D paints, wax crayons, more gold leaf. They are finished with two coats of waterproof varnish, so the jewelry is hard wearing and practical. As the chains of connecting drops move with the wearer the pieces come alive, catching the light. She also makes smaller, but no less celebratory pieces, so there is something for everyone.
