Alba Cappellieri si racconta........

​1. Chi è Alba Cappellieri, come sei cresciuta?
Sono stata un’ adolescente inquieta e indomita, che ha inseguito la libertà in ogni sua manifestazione e ha avuto la fortuna di avere dei genitori meravigliosi che mi hanno lasciato fare i miei errori dandomi fiducia.  Se oggi sono una donna felice lo devo essenzialmente
all’ educazione che ho ricevuto.
 
2. Come ti sei avvicinata al mondo dell’arte e dopo del gioiello?
E' stato un caso, anche se non credo al caso. Dopo un dottorato di ricerca in storia
​dell’ architettura vivevo negli Stati Uniti dove mi occupavo di grattacieli e poi sono arrivata a Milano. Al Politecnico mi dissero che non erano interessati ai grattacieli mentre volevano costruire una relazione tra il design e il gioiello che ai tempi, siamo negli anni Novanta, mancava. Ho pianto per una settimana ma poi ho accettato e ho fatto bene.  E’ stata una fatalità fatale che mi ha dimostrato l’ efficacia della teoria delle Sliding Doors.  Credo che la vita vada accolta, con il suo carico di meraviglia e di sofferenza. Non mi sono opposta al cambiamento e sono stata premiata, perché’ ai tempi di gioiello si occupavano solo gli storici dell’ arte mentre provenendo dal mondo del progetto ho potuto portare una visione diversa.
Invito sempre i miei studenti a non temere il cambiamento: spaventa ma nasconde sempre meravigliose scoperte.
 
3. Hai un senso del bello e del design molto forte e radicato, sei cosi sempre anche nella vita privata? Ti piace circondarti di cose belle anche nel tuo privato?

Amo l’ armonia della bellezza, ma non sono un’ esteta. Ho una visione emotiva della bellezza come pienezza e spiritualità. Considero un’ enorme fortuna potermi occupare di oggetti meravigliosi come i gioielli e di cultura in generale. Mi eleva l’ anima e mi riempie gli occhi, ma mi ha insegnato anche il sacrificio e l’ impegno necessari per ottenerla.


 
4. Ti piace ispirare gli altri? Se si lo fai con le parole, con il tuo modo d’essere, o con il tuo comportamento?

Mi piacerebbe ispirare soprattutto i giovani, si. Lo faccio ogni giorno con i miei studenti e quando ci riesco è il premio di tutti i sacrifici.
 
5. Tu, sei creativa?

Si, decisamente. Non soltanto perché’ mi piace lavorare con le mani, dalla ceramica alla calligrafia, dall’ uncinetto alla cucina, ma perche' mi piace soprattutto trovare soluzioni creative, seguire sentieri del pensiero poco battuti, creare intersezioni tra mondi distanti.
A volte mi si accende proprio una lampadina e mi perdo nell’ inseguire una visione.
Sono momenti essenziali per me. Tutti i miei libri e le mostre nascono cosi.

 
6. Come forma d’arte, cosa più ti piace? La pittura, la scultura, la fotografia, l’architettura, il design, la moda, scrivere, o altro?

Mi piace molto la pittura del XVII secolo, dopo aver amato molto il Rinascimento ora preferisco di gran lunga le inquietudini sorprendenti del Barocco. Rembrandt mi commuove fino alle lacrime. E poi adoro la poesia, che considero delle architetture di parole. La precisione e la pienezza di alcuni poeti mi emoziona nel profondo. Il design e il gioiello sono il mio pane quotidiano e non c’e’ giorno che il mio sguardo non si posi su un gioiello, o su un oggetto.
 
7. Cosa vuoi fare da grande?

 Voglio fare qualcosa per Milano, una città che amo profondamente, che mi ha accolto con enorme generosità e che mi ha donato quanto di più bello ho nella vita.
 
8. Chi, o cosa t’ispira del passato, o del presente, o di entrambe?

Mi ispirano il coraggio, la tenacia e la capacità di visione delle donne, le vere protagoniste di questo tempo oscuro e le uniche da cui mi aspetto soluzioni brillanti.


 
9. Cosa vuoi ancora fare legato al tuo lavoro ed alla tua vita privata che non sei riuscita ancora a fare?

Adoro viaggiare, e vorrei portare il mio adorato marito che odia volare a fare un lungo viaggio in Sud America e poi sto lavorando ad un progetto che se va in porto sarai la prima a sapere !
 
10. Sei una persona considerata dura, diretta, schietta, ma anche buona, mamma, figlia, moglie, onesta, generosa e dolcissima....come è veramente Alba? Raccontati.

E’ vero, sono tutte queste cose contemporaneamente, ma soprattutto coltivo quotidianamente la gratitudine e l’ onestà come valori morali e ho un enorme rispetto per le persone, tutte, dalle più umili a quelle più potenti che tratto nella stessa maniera, anzi, ho una parola gentile in più per quelle umili, soprattutto se donne.
Sono un Ariete e sono diretta come una freccia, vado dritta al bersaglio, ma mai per colpire, semplicemente perché’ detesto perdere tempo in arabeschi, salamelecchi e bizantinismi.
Mi annoiano.  Ho delle simpatie e delle antipatie epidermiche, faccio fatica a non mostrarle, ma nel tempo la “pancia” mi ha sempre dato ragione.
Allo stesso modo mi butterei nel fuoco per le persone cui voglio bene. Io sono l’ amica che non ti telefona mai, che non ti accompagna manco morta a fare shopping e che inorridisce alla parola aperitivo, non esco mai la sera ed i fine settimana voglio passarli solo con la mia famiglia, ma in compenso nei momenti di bisogno ci sono sempre, accorro, consolo e trovo soluzioni.
Mio marito dice che sono un’essenziale, nel senso che bado e vado all' essenza delle cose e ha ragione.
 
11. Cosa apprezzi di più nelle persone che ti circondano a casa, con i tuoi studenti, tra i tuoi amici, a lavoro? Cosa è che detesti e non sopporti. 

Non sopporto l’ opacità della meschineria, della piccineria, della pedanteria, intellettuale e comportamentale. Mi piacciono le anime brillanti, chi si spinge oltre la sua comfort zone.
Mi inteneriscono molto le piccole crepe scoperte dell’ anima.
Credo che l’ autenticità sia sempre più un lusso oggi che dobbiamo avere delle vite perfette, un corpo perfetto, un lavoro perfetto, degli amici e degli amori perfetti, tutto instagrammabile
​all’ istante.  Al contrario mi piacciono le persone che hanno la forza di esibire le loro imperfezioni, i kintsugi dell’anima, chi si è piegato e rialzato, quelli che sorridono e che praticano la gentilezza, li trovo irresistibili.
 
12. Siamo diventate grandi...ma dentro ci sentiamo ancora adolescenti....se tornassi indietro e chiudessi gli occhi ......regalaci un immagine di te con cui salutarci.
Considero la vita un viaggio straordinario, che non sai mai in quali futuri ti condurrà e quali incontri ti riserverà.

Alba Cappellieri talks about herself..........

​1. Who is Alba, how did you grow up?
I have been a restless and indomitable teenager. I’ ve always run after freedom, trying to capture every aspect of it. I was lucky enough in my life to have had amazing parents, which gave me the freedom to learn from my mistakes, parents which believed and trusted me. If today I can say I am a fulfilled person I owe it basically to the vision of the world I received from them. 
 
2. How did you approach the Art World and later Jewellery?
I must say it happened by chance, although I should say I do not believe in chance. It happened after a PhD in history of architecture and at that time I was living in the US, where I was dealing with skyscrapers and I ended up in Milan, precisely at the Politecnico.
 At that time, they told me that they were not interested in my skyscrapers knowledge, instead what they wanted was, to build up a relationship between design and jewellery. We were in the nineties when the jewellery industry was the leading in the world and Milan was just the capital of fashion and design. I cried a lot, but at last I decided to accept and at the end I can say today that it was the right choice, because I had the possibility to create a link between the jewellery industry and the design culture.
It was a very successful opportunity for me, an incredible fatality which showed me how the theory of the 'sliding doors 'is a reality. Life should, be accepted in all its aspects, whether it brings us joy & happiness, or whether it makes us sad.
I followed the call and at last I must say I was rewarded. At the time in fact, the only people dealing with jewellery where the art historians, whereas I was coming from the world of design and architecture. I was able to bring with my work a new vision into what I was doing. I always tell my students not to fear changes in life, because change can scare us, but it always brings with it new and beautiful discoveries that can only be for the better in life.
 
3. You have a strong sense of Beauty and Design, Are you also using Beauty in your private life? Do you like to surround yourself with beautiful and meaningful things in your private as well?
What I really like is the harmony of beauty itself, but I should say that I am not an aesthete. I have an emotional concept of beauty, in a fulfilling and spiritual sense. I consider myself very lucky, because I can work and deal everyday with beautiful objects of desire, such as jewellery and because I can deal with culture as well. Beauty elevates my soul, it fills my eyes and it taught me also the sacrifice and the hard work it requires.
 
4. Do you like to inspire others? If yes, you do it with words, with the way you behave, or with your gestures?  
I’ d love to be able to inspire the young generation.
I try to inspire everyday my beloved students and when I succeed, that is my biggest reward.
 
5. Are you a creative person? 
I believe so. Not only because I am passionate to work with my own hands, from ceramics, to calligraphy, to crochet, to cooking, but most of all because I like to find creative solutions to what I do in life. I love to walk those paths in life, that other people won’ t even dare to follow.

I like to create new intersections between worlds that are naturally far apart.

Sometimes, I get inspired and I start chasing and pursuing my new idea and these are the essential moments that make my life so full and interesting to me.

All the books that I write and all my exhibitions start this way.

 
6. As forms of art what do you prefer the most? Painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design, fashion, writing or others? 
I like very much the XVII century painting, in the past I must say, I loved very much also the Renaissance period, now I am strongly attracted by the anxieties of the Baroque. Rembrandt makes me cry and emotional almost to tears, but I also appreciate poetry, which I consider to be the greatest form of architecture, the architecture of the words. The fullness and accuracy of some poets, in fact profoundly moves me.
Design and jewellery are my daily bread and there is not even one single day in my life, in which my eyes don’ t stop to look intensively at a jewellery piece, or at an object around me.
 
7. What do you want to do when you grow up? 
I would love to do something for the city of Milan. A city which I deeply love and a city which welcomed me with great generosity and that was able to give me all the best that I have now from life.
 
8. Who or what inspires you from the past, from the present, or both? 
I get strongly inspired by courage, determination and by the skill and the perspective of women, whom I consider to be today in these hard obscure times, the real protagonists and the only ones capable of brilliant outcomes.
 
9. What would you like to do in relation to your work or your private life, that you have not managed to do up to now in your life yet?
I love to travel and I would like to take my beloved husband, who hates to fly, on a long trip together in South America. I am also working these days, in putting together a new project and if and when it becomes a reality you’ ll be the first to know !
 
10. You are considered a tough, direct, straightforward person, but also a nice, mother, daughter, wife, honest, generous and lovely human being.....Who is really Alba? Please tell us about yourself. 
This is true I feel like I really am all of these things together.
More than anything else in my life, I try always to be honest and grateful, these are in fact the moral values that guide me. I have a great respect for all human beings, from the humble to the more powerful ones and I treat all of them the same way. I would definitely say I really have a nice word for the humblest ones, especially if they are women.
I am an Aries, I am direct as an arrow. I like to go straight to the point, but never with the intention to hurt anyone, but simply because I hate to lose time in useless arabesques, flattery and unconventional byzantinisms, all of which truly bores me. I like and I dislike some people epidermically and it is genuinely hard not to show it, but time has always proved me right. Nonetheless, I would throw myself into the fire for anyone I care of to try to help him/her.
 I am the friend who never call you, the one that will never show up for shopping and who will never go out with friends for a drink. I don't  like to go out at night and during weekends. What I like is to be with my family.
Still, if you need me I’ ll always be there for you at your side, I’ ll be there to comfort you and to find solutions for you in order to help out. My husband usually says, that I am an 'essential' type of person, in the sense that my focus in life is to look for the essence of things and I must say that he is absolutely right. This is who I really am. 
 
11. What do you appreciate the most of the people that surround you?
What I don’ t like in people generally speaking, is their lack of transparency, their mean side and their narrow minded attitude, as well as their pragmatism, both at an intellectual and behavioral level.
I challenge the brilliant souls I encounter along my way. I love the ones that are able in life to move out of their comfort zone. I truly get moved by the little souls cracks I see and discover in some human beings.
Authenticity today can be considered a luxury, especially in a world where we need to show a perfect life, a perfect job, a perfect body, a perfect private and social life. Life today, is too predictable, to Instagram like, all has to happen at once. at an instant. Whereas, I appreciate people that has the strength to show the hidden imperfections, the 'kintsugi art' to be able to reassemble their broken souls. I love the ones that are able to rise again and literally get up by themselves, those people that can show the world their kindness for others, the ones that smile after the storm.
These are the people I really find irresistible.
  
12. We are adults now....but really inside we still feel teenagers....if you were able to go back in life and you could close your eyes......please give us an image of yours to say goodbye. 
I consider life as an extraordinary journey, we can’ t really tell where life will guide us next in the near future and who we will encounter along the way.
So as a young explorer, I wish you a good journey......Bon Voyage !
