With a background in graphic design, Deborah Schultheis' jewellery approach is characterised by a communicative perspective: How does jewellery speak? What meanings can it convey? Which feelings can it evoke? Working mainly with metal, she also plays around with other materials, such as salt, cotton, or sometimes objects found by chance.
One example is her ring to touch series, which invites you to engage with jewellery by touch: small Braille messages (like »feels good« or »for you«) can be felt on the front and back of the rings. Rather than appealing to the sense of sight, the design focuses on tactile perception, making jewellery more accessible to people with visual impairments. In her words, the series is intended as an impulse to explore inclusivity in jewellery design.
